As a pediatrician, I’ve had the privilege of caring for our community’s youngest residents during the time when their brains develop the fastest. Parents can shape this development through simple interactions such as talking and playing together, but for some parents, especially those who are young and/or of modest means, those simple, daily interactions are complicated by significant life stressors. This is where voluntary home visiting programs can fit in.
As we all know, babies don’t come with a book of instructions, and, as children grow into their toddler and preschool years, their needs grow and so can the challenges.
